ABOUT THE EVENT
aGLIFF, Austin’s LGBTQ+ Film Festival in partnership with AFS Cinema present VICTIM as part of AFS Cinema’s QUEER CINEMA: LOST & FOUND monthly screening series curated by Elizabeth Purchell from the popular podcast Ask Any Buddy. Ten women, most of them in Vancouver or Toronto, talk about being lesbian in the 1940s, 1950s, and 1960s: discovering the pulp fiction of the day about women in love, their own first affairs, the pain of breaking up, frequenting gay bars, facing police raids, men's responses, and the etiquette of butch and femme roles.
ABOUT THE FILM
VICTIM | CANADA| 1992 | 1 hr 22 mins
Director: Lynne Fernie and Aerlyn Weissman
In the 1950s, lesbian pulp novels dared to illuminate forbidden worlds, igniting a bold underground culture filled with secret codes and rituals. FORBIDDEN LOVE brings this bold era to life with personal stories, scripted drama, and timeless hits, celebrating defiance and triumph over repression with wit and warmth.
Screening with a video introduction by Queer Cinema: Lost & Found programmer Elizabeth Purchell.
